The Calicut Literary Festival
As is well-known now, Kerala achieved total literacy in 1991. And that achievement was not made overnight—the people of Kerala—vowed to become literate at any cost— have traveled a long way to be able to qualify for total literacy.  Calicut has been open to education and educational ventures all the way.  The sprawling campus of Feroke College, eight kilometers from the city, houses many exemplar educational institutions imparting quality education to generation after generation, not to mention the noted University of Calicut headquartered at Thenhippalam in the adjoining district of Malappuram.
